Day 1: Makassar → Rammang-Rammang Karst Wonderland

Touch down in Makassar, then drive 2 hours into a landscape from another planet. Welcome to Rammang-Rammang, Asia’s 2nd largest karst formation after Guilin.

Experience: Glide through the emerald Sungai Puteh River by wooden boat, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. Walk through Berua Village and meet Bugis farmers living in harmony with the land. Sunset paints the karsts gold.

Stay: Eco-lodge with karst views. Breathe. You’re in Sulawesi now.

Day 2: 40,000 Years Back in Time + Makassar Soul

Morning: Step into Sumpang Bita Cave and see hand paintings made 40,000 years ago. You’re touching the same stone as Sulawesi’s first humans.

Afternoon: Back to Makassar. Walk the walls of Fort Rotterdam, 400 years of Dutch-Makassar history. Admire the 99-Dome Mosque, an architectural masterpiece. Coffee at Losari Beach watching Phinisi ships — the same boats Bugis sailors used to cross oceans centuries ago.

Stay: Boutique hotel. Sleep like an explorer.

Day 3: The Road South → Tanaberu → Bira Beach

5-hour scenic drive south through Bugis country. Stop at Tanaberu Village, where master shipbuilders craft the legendary Phinisi schooners by hand. No blueprints. Just 500 years of inherited wisdom.

Afternoon: Arrive at Bira Beach. Powder-white sand. Water so clear you see your shadow. No crowds. No noise. Just you and the ocean.

Stay: Beachfront bungalow. Fall asleep to waves.

Day 4: Island Paradise – Liukang + Zero Point

Morning: 30-min boat to Liukang Island. Your private playground. Swim in crystal water, snorkel coral gardens bursting with tropical fish. Barefoot lunch on the beach.

Afternoon: Back to Bira. Stand at Zero Point Bira, the southernmost tip of Sulawesi. Ocean on 3 sides. The wind, the waves, the end of the island. Sunset here hits different.

Day 5: Bira → Sengkang | Lake Tempe & Floating Village

6-hour drive east into South Sulawesi’s heartland.

Experience: Arrive at Lake Tempe, one of Sulawesi’s great lakes. Board a boat to the floating village where Bugis families have lived on the water for generations. Sip local coffee + tea with fried bananas while they share stories of lake life. If the sky clears, watch the sunset from the boat — pure gold on water.

Stay: Lakeside hotel. Quiet. Peaceful.

Day 6: Sengkang → Toraja Highlands

The road climbs. The air cools. The views explode.

Stop at Bamba Puang for mountain coffee with a view of Buntu Kabobong peak. This is the gateway to Tana Toraja, homeland of one of Indonesia’s most fascinating ethnic groups.

Toraja isn’t a museum. It’s a living culture. Ancient traditions, towering Tongkonan houses, and sacred funeral ceremonies that draw people from around the world.

Arrive Toraja. Check in. Rest. You’re in the highlands now.

Day 7: Meet the Toraja | Culture Deep Dive

Today you walk through Toraja’s spiritual world.

Visit:

1.  Lemo – Cliff graves with rows of Tau Tau statues watching over their people. Each statue represents someone who received a full funeral according to their caste.

2.  Baby Tree Graves – Infants laid to rest inside living trees, a tradition of love and return to nature.

3.  Tampang Allo Cave – Natural cave with ancient coffins and human remains, sacred and silent.

4.  Karuaya Traditional Village – Walk through rows of Tongkonan houses with dramatic boat-shaped roofs. Meet families, see hand-weaving, feel the rhythm of highland life.

Day 8: Toraja Nature & Ancient Stones

Today is for Toraja’s wild side.

Visit:

1.  Palawa Village – Rows of ancient Tongkonan houses standing like sentinels.

2.  Tinimbayo Hill – Endless green rice terraces carved into the mountains. One of Toraja’s most photographed views.

3.  Local Village Walk – See daily life: kids, farmers, weavers. Slow, warm, real.

4.  Batutumonga – The rooftop of Toraja at 1,700m above sea level. Cloud forests + mountain panoramas that take your breath away.

5.  Deri Megalithic Site – Huge ancient stones placed by hands we’ll never understand.

6.  Lombok Parinding Cave – Natural cave with old wooden coffins. Silent, sacred, powerful.

Stay: Mountain lodge. Stars for a ceiling.

Day 9: If We’re Lucky – Rambu Solo + Traditional Market

If timing allows, witness a Toraja funeral ceremony — Rambu Solo. One of the world’s most elaborate rituals. Days of music, buffalo sacrifice, and community. Not a show. A sacred goodbye.

Afternoon: Explore a traditional Toraja market. Hand-woven cloth, spices, mountain coffee, buffalo markets. Chaos, color, life.

Note: Ceremonies depend on local dates. When they happen, they change you forever.

Day 10: Toraja → Tentena | Full Day Jungle & Lake Road

Long drive, huge reward. One full day crossing villages, small towns, and tropical rainforest. Watch Sulawesi change outside your window.

Arrive Tentena on the shore of Lake Poso, one of Indonesia’s deepest and clearest lakes. Check in to a lakeside lodge. Breathe. You’re in Central Sulawesi now.

Day 11: Tentena – Bali Village + Saluopa Waterfall

Morning: Visit a unique Bali Village in Central Sulawesi. Same culture, different island, fascinating story.

Afternoon: Saluopa Waterfall – 12 tiers of crystal water falling through jungle. Swim in natural pools. No crowds. Just you and the sound of water.

Stay: Lake Poso. Sunset over the water.

Day 12: Bada Valley National Park | Land of Ancient Stones

Day trip into Lore Lindu National Park, Bada Valley. A lost world of 1,000-year-old megalithic statues. Human figures, rice mortars, stone vats — carved by a civilization we’re still trying to understand. Jungle, mystery, and zero tour buses.

Stay: Tentena.

Day 13: Tentena → Ampana | Gateway to Paradise

Tentena is the transit point to the Togian Islands. Drive down to Ampana port. Overnight by the sea. Tomorrow: paradise.

Day 14-18: Togian Islands | The Last Untouched Archipelago

Boat 4-5 hours into the Gulf of Tomini. Welcome to Togian Islands — hundreds of tiny islands scattered like emeralds.

Days 14-18: No schedule. No rush. Just island life.

Snorkel coral gardens with more fish than people. Kayak through mangroves. Swim in water so clear it feels like air. Sleep in beach bungalows with the sound of waves. Read. Dive. Do nothing. This is what “getting away” actually means.

Day 19: Togian → Ampana → Luwuk

Day 20: Free Day in Luwuk

Days 21-23: Luwuk Banggai – Waterfalls, Lakes & Sea Gypsies

Explore:

1.  Biggest Waterfall – Power and mist that soaks you with joy.

2.  Lake Pai Supok – Hidden mountain lake, calm and emerald.

3.  Sea Gypsy Village – Meet the Bajau Laut, ocean nomads who live half their lives on boats. Incredible people, incredible skills.

4.  Pristine Beaches – White sand + crystal water with no one else around.

5.  Blue Lagoon – Swim in a natural pool of unreal blue.

Stay: Luwuk. Last nights in Sulawesi.

Day 24: Luwuk → Makassar → Fly Out

Transfer to Luwuk Banggai Airport. Fly to Makassar for your international connection.
